John Leguizamo will join forces with Fania Records to release Ghetto Klown - Music From My Hood, to accompany the upcoming Broadway run of Leguizamo's latest solo show, Ghetto Klown. The album will include songs selected by Leguizamo from Fania's extensive Latin music recordings.
"I am honored to be able to collaborate with the legendary label and re-visit all my favorite classics," Leguizamo said in a statement. "It is a dream to create my own compilation with the songs I grew up with and were inspiration for all my shows."
Ghetto Klown begins performances February 21 at the Lyceum Theatre, ahead of a March 22 opening. Fisher Stevens directs the production, which marks Leguizamo's latest Broadway venture after previous solo shows Freak and Sexaholix...a Love Story and a starring role in the revival of David Mamet's American Buffalo.
Fania Records is currently remastering and reissuing more than 3,000 albums tropical music albums released from the 1940s through 1980s. The label's artists include Celia Cruz, Beny More, Sonora Matancera and Orquesta Aragon.
